Drafting and design is invention of illustration to enable parts for cars, creating or airplanes to be made Drafting and design degree applies technical skills to produce working drawings and machine simulations for a mixture of applications with the help of draftsman services in Perth. In this new generation of technological earth, drafting is now done on computers using computer aided drafting (CAD) and other application programs.
CAD drafting technology becomes more advanced every year with the introduction of updated software. For now, and I feel for a long time to come, CAD software will remain the drafting industries standard practice for creating architecture, mechanical, civil, electrical, plumbing, and any other type design work. The days of using hand tools, and drafting boards is over. These techniques will never disappear, but for now will remain more of a hobby to most draftsmen.
The world of drafting changed forever in the 90’s when CAD software became more exposed to the general population. Before CAD became the drafting industries standard practice Drafters would draw every line by hand with the use of a drafting board, and several hand held tools. This method was much more time consuming, and for isometric drawings(3D) it could take days or weeks to complete complicated renderings. Over the last ten years, several software companies have made advancements to CAD software making the task of drafting more user friendly on the computer.
The 80s brought 2 things that changed the way Drafting Services were rendered in an AEC Firm. First: computers and CAD. Second: Participative Management. This created Project Teams that were a mix of Architects, Project Managers and Drafters. Teams were collectively accountable for results, deadlines and assigned costs. And with the 90s giving computers to each desk, we had Architects who were drafting the plans till a point, and drafters who were interpreting and editing designs to an extent.
So now in the second decade of the millennium, we are back to Drafting Services being a specialization. The above factors caused and enabled segregation of Drafting Services, i.e. In sourcing. That was the natural path to Drafting Outsourcing Services, a very popular phenomenon today.
Till the 1980s when computers came in, AEC firms would have their Drafting Services collectively performed by a ‘pool’ of drafters. A hall with huge Drawing Boards, with drafters heads hidden behind them, was a pretty common sight. Architects or Engineers handling a project would give their drafting request, either to the drafter assigned to them, or more often, to a Drafting Supervisor, who would manage the workload, deadlines and quality. To say that drafters were the clerks of an AEC firm would not be too far from the truth.
If you’re not familiar with CAD or CADD it’s the acronym for Computer Aided Drafting. Sometimes its referred to as Computer Aided Drafting Design also. 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional drawings are created when the draftsmen enters information into a CAD software program. Lines are drawn on the X, Y, and Z axis to create 3 dimensional models. When designing 2D drawings only the X, and Y axis are used which represent the left, right, up, and down directions. The Z axis is used to create 3D models and represents the depth.
The millennium brought us widespread internet, more capable software, and a series of economic slowdowns. And this enabled changes that seem to have turned Drafting Services a full circle to draftsman services in Perth.
